A visit to see the Open Gardens of Hogsback in the Eastern Cape

In September the little hamlet of Hogsback celebrates spring by opening up a number of their beautiful gardens to the public by appointment. You buy a brochure/list at the local Tourist Bureau, choose the gardens you would like to visit and the helpful staff will oblige by making a few appointments for you. Sometimes you will meet the gardeners and/or owners ; often you are given the freedom to roam the grounds and gardens at your own leisure. Another aspect not to miss out on a visit to Hogsback will be the amazing forest walks.

Rosehurst in Pietermaritzburg, Natal – an inspirationl garden

We were enthralled by the garden of landscape architect and horticulturist Candy Wise. Situated in central Pietermaritzburg the garden, originally influenced by Sissinghurst Castle Garden in south-west England, illustrates the idea of garden rooms perfectly: there is a walled pink garden, yellow sundial, white gazebo garden, a mauve garden and a potager.
