Malans Guest House (circa 1937), Stellenbosch

You may be surprised that I would add this particular B&B – Malans Guest House is situated in a quiet cul-de-sac in the historic centre of Stellenbosch, surrounded by far more historic and grander looking guest houses. Throughout my children’s studies at Stellenbosch I have stayed at Malans, where Leatitia and her staff will treat you to the essence of South African hospitality. In this solid 1937 built house there are five double bedrooms, lounge with fireplace, reading room, and breakfast room filled with antiques and Persian carpets on lovely oak floors. Modern facilities like internet access is also available.
The parking area is off-street and secure. The bedrooms are all en-suite, and have private entrances leading to patios and the swimming pool area. Tea and coffee making facilities are provided in the rooms, as well as a microwave oven and a small fridge. The rooms all have a desk for those who want to work, and TV for those who want to relax with a glass of port wine put out during the evening servicing of the rooms. Special care is taken to start the day off well with a full and interesting breakfast that includes a fruit platter and a traditional porridge. A number of good restaurants are within easy, and safe, walking distance, but best of all : the Stellenbosch Botanical Garden is just up the street.
